Gunman Opens Fire on Deputies Who Knocked on Door

A gunman opened fire from inside a home after two deputies knocked on his door during a domestic disturbance call in the San Gabriel Valley.

Authorities responded to the Valinda mobile home park  just before 3:30 a.m. in the 17300 block of Temple Avenue. When deputies arrived and knocked on the door, the gunman opened fire from inside the home.

"As they knocked on the door, somebody at the location fired rounds through the door, like five to six rounds through the door," said Capt. Timothy Murakami.

The deputies, who were not injured, returned fire. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was struck by gunfire.

The gunman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer, said Murakami. A large arsenal of guns were found in the home, he said.

Nearby residents were evacuated to a nearby police station.
