2 Sisters Found Shot, Dead When Firefighters Respond to Fire in Westchester

One reportedly was shot in the head.

Two people were found dead Saturday when firefighters put out flames inside an apartment near the Westchester area of Los Angeles, authorities said. One had a gunshot wound to the head.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:04 a.m. to the two story apartment building in the 8655 S. Belford Ave., and had the fire out within 21 minutes of their arrival, said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters found two bodies inside the apartment, and "there was evidence suggesting that both victims suffered gunshot wounds," Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section said.

One reportedly was shot in the head.

Homicide detectives were on the scene to determine whether they had a murder-suicide or a homicide with outstanding suspects on their hands, Madison said. Fire department arson investigators were also working the scene.
