Caught on Camera: Driver Flees After Striking Woman Out Celebrating Birthday

The collision left Ingrid Argueta seriously injured and on life support.

Police released surveillance video Thursday of a horrific hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles that left a young mother on life support.

Family members were preparing to say goodbye to Ingrid Argueta, 34, days after she was struck by a driver while she was out celebrating her birthday with friends.

The shocking surveillance video from the night of July 7 shows Argueta walking out onto 79th Street near Denker Avenue, outside of the crosswalk. A vehicle traveling northbound on Denker hits Argueta and fails to stop.

"I saw the video myself I'm like, no. I just couldn't believe it. No. That can't be my sister." said Roy Argueta. "A horrific image. I'm haunted for life."

Argueta was hospitalized for cranial bleeding, a laceration to the back of her head, abrasions and fractured legs, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Doctors declared her dead Thursday night, and she will be taken off life support overnight.

Police released video of the crash and offered a $50,000 reward, hoping someone could provide information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the hit-and-run driver.

Loved ones, including friends, coworkers and teachers, remembered the young mother of a 6-year-old girl at a vigil Thursday night.

"The fact they fled," Roy Argueta said. "What kind of human, what kind of coward?"
