Toddler Mauled by Dog in Riverside Recovering at Home, Mom Says

Fate of dog who allegedly attacking him, opening gash on forehead, up in the air

The one-year-old boy sent to the hospital in a dog attack Friday is home with his medicine, his mother said on Facebook.

Kaidyn Sutton suffered a large gash over his eyes when a dog, allegedly a Labrador mix, bit him while he was playing at a park in the Inland Empire's French Valley, near Murrieta.

The boy's mother, Michaela Sutton, wrote on Facebook Sunday that they returned home that day after picking up medicine prescribed after the attack. She added that Kaidyn was playing with his father, a soldier granted family leave from his post at Camp Pendleton when Kaidyn went to the hospital.

"So happy to see my baby laughing today," his Sutton posted .

The dog thought to be responsible for the attack, a six-year-old named Dexter, remains in Riverside County Animal Services pound Monday morning. Identified by a friend of Michaela Sutton's, the dog resides at a home near the park where Kaidyn was attacked, according to a press release.

"The friend reportedly helped grab the dog away from the child," Riverside County Animal Services Sgt. Lesley Huennekens said in a press release Saturday, when the dog was impounded.

Dexter, who has no prior record with Riverside County Animal Services, faces a hearing to determine if he can returned to his owner or will be euthanized.
