A San Diego woman is accused of child endangerment after her three children were involved in a collision in Spring Valley Monday.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on Bancroft Drive near the intersection with Koonce Drive, south of State Route 94 and east of State Route 125.

A truck veered onto the sidewalk and slammed into a fountain and a concrete wall, California Highway Patrol officers confirmed.

The driver, identified as Grace Esparza, was in the vehicle with her three children ages 7 years old, 3 years old and 5 months old, CHP officers said.

The 7-year-old girl was unrestrained in the front passenger seat, officials said. She underwent surgery at Rady Children's Hospital for facial and spleen lacerations, they added.

The 3-year-old girl was in the backseat unrestrained and suffered a minor cut to her head, CHP officers said.

An infant boy was restrained in a car seat in the backseat of the truck and was uninjured.

Esparza, 26, was hospitalized with broken vertebrae and a broken nose, officials said. She will be booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility once she is released from the hospital.

She will face felony driving under the influence and child endangerment charges, investigators said.

San Diego County Child Protective Services employees were called to advise on the placement of the children, CHP officers said.
