Water Main Break Causes Flooding, Street Closures

A water main break caused street closures and flooding that reached all the way to the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles early Sunday morning.

A call came in around 3:30 a.m. of a 24-inch break that left streets between Hoover Street and Orchard Avenue closed, said Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokesperson Terry Schneider.

By around 4:40 a.m., there was 3 feet of water backed up all the way to the 110 Freeway, said the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

As of around 7 a.m., the streets between Hoover and Orchard were still closed, Schneider said. Crews were working to shut down the water main, but it was unknown if it was still flowing, Schneider said.
