Chico Student Killed After Being Struck by Large Tree Branch Identified

An 18-year-old student at California State University, Chico, has died after being struck in the head by a large tree branch that fell about 20 feet.

The Chico Enterprise-Record reports Pa Houa Lor was sitting on a bench on campus Tuesday when the branch came down.

Emergency responders found the woman unconscious and seriously injured. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Chico State spokesman Joe Wills said an arborist inspected some of the trees on campus before the semester began and there will likely be another inspection as a result of Tuesday's accident.

Wills tells the newspaper he can't recall anything like it happening in his 16 years at the school.

The coroner's office says an autopsy is planned.
