Crews Battle Hopkins Fire in Mendocino County

The Hopkins fire was first reported Sunday afternoon near Moore and East Hopkins streets.

Firefighters are getting a handle on a brush fire that caused a lot of concern in Mendocino County Sunday afternoon.

The blaze, dubbed the Hopkins Fire, is burning in the town of Calpella, about 10 miles north of Ukiah, according to Mendocino County sheriff's officials.

Cal Fire reports that the fire has burned 275 acres and is currently 10% contained. Some homes were destroyed.

Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents, who live near the blaze, but some of the areas have been reduced to evacuation warnings.

Officials have opened a shelter for residents evacuated from the fire at the Mendocino County Office of Education, located at 2240 Old River Road in Ukiah.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
