LA Burglar Stabbed by Homeowner to Get 34 Years

SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - Monterey County prosecutors say a burglar stabbed by a homeowner who caught him in the act of stealing jewelry will be sentenced to 34 years and eight months in prison.

The Monterey County Herald reported Monday that 57-year-old Raymond Gutosky pleaded guilty last week to burglary charges after having two previous burglary convictions in Los Angeles.

Gutosky was caught last summer inside a Pacific Grove home stealing jewelry. The homeowner, armed with a knife, ordered him to stay until police arrived.

The two men fought and the owner stabbed Gutosky.

Gutosky stumbled outside, got into a car and drove away. Police caught up with him at a San Jose hospital.

During a search of his residence, police found jewelry stolen in three other residential burglaries in Monterey County.

His sentencing is set for June 6.
