Son Arrested After Discovery of Mom's Dead Body in Burbank Alley

After a woman's body was found near a dumpster in a Burbank alley Monday morning, the woman's son was arrested in connection with the death, according to the Burbank Police Department.

The 77-year-old woman was found wrapped in a blanket in an alley behind her apartment on Victory Boulevard between Pass Avenue and Evergreen Street about 10:44 a.m., according to the Burbank Police Department.

She lived in the apartment with her son, Moises Diaz, 40, who was arrested in connection with her death, Burbank police said in a news conference Monday night.

Neighbors told NBC4 the woman was loved and well-known in the area, and she would leave Christmas presents on her neighbors' doorsteps.

Woman Accuses Ex-Coach of Abuse

"She would always come bearing gifts, tomatoes and a little bit of food," neighbor Robert Blandon said. "She was a very friendly person, and I'm shocked really."

Diaz was being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Police have not released the woman's cause of death.

This is the first murder in Burbank since late 2012, police said.
