SJSU and Other Schoools Celebrate Earth Day

SJSU Earth Day

It's green all day at San Jose State University, and at many other college campuses.

Today -- all day -- SJSI is celebrating Earth Day with music, food, a visit from the mayor and a career fair touting green jobs.

All the events for Sustainability Week are free and open to the public.

Those events include:

A memorial service for Frank Shiavo, a "green pioneer" and former SJSU professor for years until he died in 2010.

A Green Career Fair will be held Thursday afternoon.

And that's just at SJSU. Other colleges are getting into the act too.

Today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mission College in Santa Clara is hosting an EcoFair with information booths about burrowing owls to electric vehicles on display. There will be a mini-used book fair and music from Kurt Hibner and The GuestList. Lots of local high schools are planning to attend, according to Susan Monahan, a coordinator of the event.
