Cynicism Could Lead to Dementia, New Study Finds

Cynical people may be more likely to develop dementia later on in life, according to a new study conducted by researchers in Finland, NBC News reported. The link might be due to cynical people having higher levels of inflammation, a factor that also puts them at a higher risk of heart disease according to a 2009 study. Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland studied people aged 65 to 79 for as long as 10 years and found that those who showed higher levels of cynicism had a higher risk of developing dementia in the long run. The research team cautioned that the findings are limited and that it's possible early symptoms of dementia include increased cynicism.
