San Jose Man Convicted of Posing as Toenail Fungus Doctor

Cary Silberman, the 53-year-old owner of Shiny Toes centers, used lasers to treat patients with toenail fungus and did not have a medical license, prosecutors said.

A San Jose man who owned a chain of laser treatment centers for toenail fungus has been convicted of practicing medicine without a license.

Santa Clara County prosecutors say 53-year-old Cary Silberman presented himself as a licensed doctor, diagnosed patients with toenail fungus and treated it with lasers though he did not have a medical license. Such treatments can only be performed by a licensed doctor in California.

Silberman was convicted on Friday of 19 felony counts of practicing medicine without a license. He owned Shiny Toes centers in San Jose, San Francisco, San Ramon, Beverly Hills and Manhattan.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that he faces up to 15 years in prison at his sentencing next month.
