The 78th season of Stern Grove Festival, which takes place June 14-August 16, features free performances by Talib Kweli, Sheila E., Morris Day and the Time, and more.
Organizers previously announced that Bay Area legacy rock act the Doobie Brothers would play at the season opener on June 14, also known as the Big Picnic. The remainder of the summer schedule was announced Thursday and features an eclectic lineup of local and international musicians representing a wide range of sounds.
Other highlights from the lineup include Pacific Mambo Orchestra featuring iconic local percussionist Sheila E. (June 21), Randy Newman and Hot Club of San Francisco taking on the work of late French guitarist Django Reinhardt (June 28), the San Francisco Symphony (July 5) and Ballet (July 26), Hawaii’s top female vocalist Amy Hānaiali‘i (July 12), Oakland indie sensation tUnE-yArDs (July 19), singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter (August 2), Purple Rain stars Morris Day and the Time (August 9), and rapper Talib Kweli (August 16).
All shows are free (first come, first served until capacity is reached) and begin at 2pm.
