1-Alarm Brush Fire Sparks in Milpitas, Burns Four Acres

A brush fire sparked in the Milpitas foothills on Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.

Cal Fire crews responded to the one-alarm blaze at 2:30 p.m., located off Calaveras Ridge Drive, according to officials. Flames came within a few yards of homes anf forced two families to evacuate. 

"It's scary. Really scary," Resident Rupali Mehta said. "I hope it doesn't turn to this side."

In addition to fighting on the ground, helicopters also dropped retardant on the flames, officials said. But firefighters faced several challenges including increasing winds, dry grass and steep terrain. 

The fire burned about four acres near Calaveras Ridge Drive before firefighters fully extinguished it. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
