$1 Buses to Los Angeles Return

Megabus to offer discount luxury bus service between SF and LA

Welcome back, Megabus.

The discount travelers' $1 option for a trip between Los Angeles and San Francisco has returned, after a four-year hiatus, according to reports.

Megabus in 2007 began offering cheap bus fares between Northern and Southern California. But somehow, the WiFi-equipped double-deckers just didn't catch on, and the company went "Megabust" within a year, the Los Angeles Times joked.

But now it's back.

Starting Dec. 12, the bus line will again offer service between the Caltrain station at Fourth and King streets in San Francisco and Los Angeles's Union Station, SFist reported.

Rides are also available from the West Oakland BART.

Bring a book -- it's at least a seven-hour ride.
