Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Killing Mother with Hammer: Police

A 50-year-old woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of killing her mother with a hammer in Sunnyvale, according to the city's Department of Public Safety.

The incident is the first homicide reported in Sunnyvale this year, police said.

Officers first received a report of a possible homicide at 12:51 p.m. in the Plaza Del Rey Mobile Home Park, near Levi's Stadium.

When police arrived on scene they found an 81-year-old woman who died from apparent blunt force injuries from a hammer located at the scene.

Police have identified the suspect as Linde Adrienne Smith, who lives at the mobile home park. Her mother, Anne Frances Smith, has been identified as the woman killed.

Detectives said there was an argument that occurred, which may have led to the incident.

The suspect will be booked into Santa Clara County Jail on the charge of homicide, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.
