Brawl Leads to Fatal Stabbing in Downtown San Leandro

A man was fatally stabbed in downtown San Leandro Tuesday night, according to police.

The death is thought to have stemmed from a fight between four men in the vicinity of 1499 Washington Ave., just after 11 p.m.

Detectives spoke to witnesses and obtained surveillance video from the area around the scene of the crime. Two men were observed fleeing, and they are now considered persons of interest, according to police.

Lt. Isaac Benabou sent his condolences to the victim's family and said in a statement this morning that he's confident that the persons of interest will be located.

"We have no information as to what led to this altercation," Benabou said. "Whatever the reason, nothing justifies taking another life."

Investigators are asking anyone with additional information to call the San Leandro Police Department at (510) 577-2740.
