1 Dead, Another Injured in Richmond Park Shooting: Police

One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Monday night at La Moine Park in Richmond, according to police.

Officers responded to calls about shots being fired at about 10:50 p.m. and arrived at the park at 3501 Morningside Drive, just east of Valley View Elementary School, to find the two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Richmond police.

One of the men, 21-year-old Eric Brown of Richmond, died at the scene. Brown was a local mechanic.

The other man, a 19-year-old Rodeo resident, was shot "in his lower extremities" but is expected to survive, police said.

Officers have not arrested any suspects, but say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident. The motive is not yet known by police.

The shooting made for some terrifying moments for neighbors, with a bullet hitting a bedroom window. No one was hurt when the bullet hit the home.

Grace Magtibay, who lives at the home, said the power of prayer kept them safe.

"The blessed mother saved me. The blessed Virgin Mary saved me," Magtibay said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Richmond police Detective J. Wentz at 510-621-1259.
