The woman who died in a fatal vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on State Highway 4 in Contra Costa County has been identified as a 25-year-old Antioch resident.
Destinee Shaharisha-Jenae Hillery was pronounced dead at the scene after the silver Honda she was driving crashed into the guard rail eastbound at Port Chicago Highway north of Concord around 2:25 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. She was the car's only occupant.
Investigators located bullet holes on the driver's side door. The preliminary investigation is of a "suspicious death," CHP Officer Hannah Wolcott said Saturday.
Neighbor Timothy Looney held back tears Sunday when talking about Hillery, who graduated from Deer Valley High School.
"She was really a charming girl. Bright smile, never had a problem, ever," Looney said. "Our kids and their kids were real young, and they all grew up around each other."
Freeway shootings have been an ongoing prpblem in the East Bay in recent years, and Looney said it needs to stop.
"I’m kind of a supporter of the Second Amendment, but this is getting out of hand," he said. "You hear about it all the time."
