One person has died and another suffered major injuries in an accident that has blocked the southbound Interstate Highway 880 connector to state Highway 92 in Hayward Tuesday night, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
Officers responded to a report of an accident involving at least two vehicles around 10:30 p.m., CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another person who suffered major injuries was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Cistaro said.
The Alameda County coroner's bureau has been called to the scene, he said.
Cistaro did not know of any other injuries in the accident.
A Sig-alert was issued at 10:48 p.m. and there is no estimated time of when the connector will reopen, according to the CHP.
