11 Consecutive Spare the Air Days Ties Last Year's Record

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - With dry static skies and no rain, the San Francisco Bay Area is seeing some of the worst wintertime air pollution in years.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued the 11th straight Spare the Air Day Monday tying last year's record for the number of consecutive days of warnings for potentially unhealthy levels of pollutants.

it was not extended to Tuesday because of light winds from the west. With little rain in the new year and the drought heading into a fourth year, the dirty air is intensified. And with no rain in the forecast until the weekend, more alerts could come. Regulators continue to encourage people not to burn wood indoors and outdoors unless it's their only source of heat.
