11/12/13 Weddings Flood City Hall

Couples tend to gravitate toward dates like 11/12/13 that are easy to remember

San Francisco City Hall was wedding ceremony central Tuesday as couples lined up to say their "I Dos" on 11/12/13.

The San Francisco County clerk said there were 50 marriage license appointments, and 35 marriage ceremony appointments scheduled for the day.

Some couples are doing it for the novelty of the date, but newlyweds Shanel Manzano and Elliot Byrant told Today.com there is also an element of luck to the date.

"The sum of 11, 12, and 13 is 9. The number 9 is also considered to be 'lucky' in the Chinese culture as it means long lasting," Manzano said. "To make it even more personal, the number 12 is my lucky number while 13 is [Elliot’s] lucky number.”

Dates with sequential or repetitive numbers are especially popular wedding dates because they're easy to remember and they look good on an invitation, according to the wedding blog theknot.com.

Even though Nov. 12 this year falls on a Tuesday, it lands in the fall which is becoming an increasingly popular season for weddings. Oct. 12, 2013 was the most popular wedding date of the year, according to theknot.com.

The last sequential date for nearly a century is about year away on Dec. 13, 2014 (12/13/14).

The calendar kept things hopping in the City, but in Santa Clara County it was just another day. The clerk in San Jose said 17 marriage ceremonies were scheduled there and say "That number isn’t exceptionally large compared to other popular days like Valentine’s Day."

Las Vegas also reported lots of 11/12/13 weddings.

The Clark County clerk's office issued 1,399 marriage licenses in the four days leading up to Tuesday. That's a 28 percent increase from the same four-day period last year. Clerk Diana Alba says the number of licenses is nowhere near what it was during the record-breaking days before July 7, 2007, when the calendar turned up lucky triple sevens.

Unusual weddings around Sin City on Tuesday included a couple that got married on a motorcycle, and another pair that had a six-tier wedding cake made out of hamburgers.
