12 Hospitalized Due to Suspicious Odor at The Westin Palo Alto: Fire Officials

At least 12 people were rushed to a hospital for respiratory issues in connection to a hazardous material investigation at The Westin Palo Alto late Thursday, officials said.

Fire crews at around 10:30 responded to a report of a suspicious odor at the hotel on El Camino Real and asked guests to shelter in place. Hazardous materials teams from Palo Alto and Mountain View investigate were called to the hotel to investigate.

Fire officials said eight people were exposed to the odor and were taken to Stanford Medical Center and four patients were transported to El Camino Hospital. 

On Friday, the fire department said that the situation was "under control," but they were "unable to determine the source of the irritant."
