Second Victim Dies in San Jose Shooting

A second victim in a double shooting has died, according to San Jose police.

The victim, a woman, was found on the 800 block of South Third Street around 11 a.m. Saturday along with a man, who was dead at the scene. The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment but died Sunday evening of her injuries, Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

Police anticipate releasing the identity of both victims in the shooting tomorrow, Dwyer said. Detectives are working the case around the clock and looking for witnesses.

The double shooting occurred around the same time as a deputy-involved shooting about a mile and a half away in the area of Park Aavenue and Sunol Street.

Police said a Sheriff's deputy on patrol came across a suspect in a stolen vehicle shortly after 11 a.m., and fired several rounds after the suspect behaved in an allegedly threatening manner.

The suspect fled to a nearby industrial yard at 255 S. Montgomery St. In a search of the area, officers found Omar Muhdi, 37, and arrested him on suspicion of auto theft, possession of stolen property and parole violation.

The deputy that shot at the suspect has been placed on routine paid administrative leave. Since the shooting happened in the San Jose Police Department's jurisdiction, the San Jose police Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.

San Jose police are investigating the incident, which involved deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office but took place within the Police Department's jurisdiction.
