Concord Plane Crash Cause Still Under Investigation

Two people were treated at a nearby hospital.

A pilot and passenger whose small plane made a crash landing at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord Tuesday afternoon were being treated at a hospital for moderate to major injuries, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District captain said.

For an unknown reason, the plane missed its intended runway and went down in a field on airport property at 3:21 p.m., Fire Capt. Kent Kirby said.

There was no fuel spill or fire as a result of the fire, and the plane did not appear to hit any structures or vehicles, Kirby said.

The crash victims were transported via ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek to be treated for their injuries.

Kirby said the northern runway where the plane was meant to land and the grassy area where it ended up have been closed during the investigation into the crash.
