16-Year-Old Arrested After 4-Year-Old Struck in Hit-and Run: San Jose Police

San Jose police arrested a 16-year-old driver after they say the teen struck a 4-year-old boy on Tuesday evening, sending the child to the hospital.

Officer Albert Morales said witnesses said a red vehicle hit the child at 6:47 p.m. at the Valley Parks Apartment complex in the 2100 block of Lanai Avenue. Witnesses told police the driver took off without stopping or returning to the scene. A 5 mph speed limit sign is clearly posted in the complex area.

Later, police said they found a 16-year-old boy near the 200 block of Cedar Lane, and arrested him in connection with the hit and run. They did not say what led them there, or what evidence they had against the teen, other than what was described as the suspect vehicle was also found there.

Morales said the teen does not live at the apartment complex.

The child was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
