1st Milpitas Homicide of 2014; Man Shot in Face

Milpitas police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year after a young man was shot in the face in the parking lot of the Executive Inn.

"It was pretty chaotic, several witnesses were screaming and crying," Lt. Sandy Holliday said.

Early Wednesday morning, police said they were looking for at least two suspects and that the shooting may have been related to a Tuesday night party on the third floor.

The shooting was reported about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the lot of the Dempsey Road hotel. Police responded to multiple 911 calls, and when they arrived, found a man, perhaps in his 20s, with a bullet wound in his face, plice said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said they saw a dark sedan leaving the scene.

Last year, Milpitas had one homicide, in a fatal baseball attack on 31-year-old Carlos Pasqual Vargas-Caloca at he Sports Authority store at the Great Mall on June 7. In that case, Nathaniel Manlangit, 26, was found to be not guilty by reason of insanity last week.
