A two-alarm fire broke out out a Sunnyvale strip mall on Wednesday morning that damaged three businesses and destroyed a barber shop.
Firefighters said the fire, which started about 5 a.m. at 612 East Evelyn Avenue, didn't injure anyone and started in a common attic for an unknown reason. The fire was contained to the barber shop, Exclusive Cutz, Sunnyvale of Public Safety Capt. Jeffrey Hunter said, but three other businesses had significant smoke damage.
But Pete Tu, owner of Al's Liquor shop, said last week police came to ask him questions about someone who possibly tried to set fire to a taqueria in the same strip mall.
In fact, Hunter said that on Oct. 14, the police department had taken an arson report at the same mall after a business owner said his storage was charred. He stressed at this point he wasn't sure if the two cases were linked, but authorities were investigating.
