2 Arrested for 1988 Slaying of Vallejo Woman

VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities arrested two men in connection with the 1988 killing of a 26-year-old woman whose strangled body was found floating in a large livestock water trough in Petaluma.

The Sonoma County Sherriff's Office said Wednesday that DNA evidence resulted in the arrests of 49-year-old Fausto Chavez and 47-year-old Josafat Presencion.

The men are being held on in connection with Vallejo resident Wynetta Davis's slaying.

Davis's mother told police that her daughter disappeared on the evening of May 16, 1988 while walking to a store.

Her body was found six days later, and identified through fingerprints.

Chavez and Presencion are Mexican nationals who were living in Vallejo at the time.

Detectives reopened the case in 2010 and sent DNA samples to the Department of Justice crime lab database.
