2 Arrested in Sausalito for Alleged Identity Theft

Sausalito police arrested a pair of San Francisco residents on suspicion of identity theft after a traffic stop Tuesday evening, police said.

An officer stopped a Land Rover Discovery after it allegedly went through a stop sign at Liberty Ship and Marinship ways around 5:45 p.m.

The driver apparently used a New York driver's license to identify himself but he did not resemble the photo on the license and the officer determined the driver was actually Joseph Catania, 40, of San Francisco.

Police said the officer arrested Catania for alleged impersonation and determined Catania had a no bail felony warrant out of San Francisco for identity theft and another felony warrant out of Alameda for a probation violation. Catania also is on probation in San Francisco for identity theft and related crimes, according to police.

The officer also contacted a woman in the Land Rover who allegedly gave a false name. Officers identified the woman as Sharon Neal, 37, of San Francisco, and determined a felony warrant was out for her for alleged possession of a stolen vehicle and identity theft, police said.

Inside the vehicle, police allegedly discovered stolen property, evidence of identity theft, equipment to manufacture fraudulent credit cards, burglary tools, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.

Catania and Neal were arrested on the warrants, and on suspicion of conspiracy, identity theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. They were booked in the county jail.
