2 Found Dead in Car That Crashed Off of Highway 101 in San Jose

Two people were found dead Monday morning in a vehicle that had crashed off of northbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The crash was reported shortly before 8:20 a.m. off of the right-hand shoulder of northbound Highway 101 near McKee Road but may have happened sometime overnight, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

Officers responded and found a 22-year-old woman behind the wheel and a 26-year-old man in a passenger seat of a car that had crashed into trees and bushes. Both were pronounced dead, Lee said. Their names are not yet being released.

Lee said because no one reported witnessing the car going off the road, the time and cause of the crash have not been determined and remain under investigation.

The far right lane of the highway remained closed in the area for hours while authorities investigated the crash, but reopened as of shortly before 11:45 a.m., according to the CHP.
