Two men have been arrested on suspicion of homicide following the weekend killing of a man in east Morgan Hill, the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday.
Spencer Smith, 20, was arrested Sunday and now faces murder charges following a “stabbing that led to a homicide” about 12:40 a.m., Sunday, May 31. Chase Benoit, 20, was arrested Tuesday and was still being questioned, authorities said.
Both suspects are Morgan Hill residents and have been booked into county jail without bail, according to jail records.
Since the alleged stabbing took place in an unincorporated part of Santa Clara County, in a field north of Diana Avenue and Ringel Drive, the sheriff’s department took over the investigation.
Deputies arrived to find the male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds, authorities said. The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Neither the victim's identity nor a motive has been revealed.
