2 Women Injured in Bay Point House Fire That Destroyed Home

Two women were injured in a one-alarm fire in Bay Point this evening, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District official said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 38 Lakeview Drive at 5:47 p.m., a dispatcher said. Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said fire crews arrived to find "extremely heavy fire" throughout the home.

"The roof was beginning to collapse," Marshall said.

Two women, one of whom is elderly, suffered smoke inhalation as a result of the blaze, Marshall said. One woman was a resident of the home that burned and the other is a neighbor, he said.

Little more than the exterior walls of the house remain from the blaze, which Marshall described as a "total loss." Marshall said the fire caused an estimated $300,000 in damage and displaced two adults who lived in the home.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze by about 6:30 p.m., he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Marshall said neighbors reported some suspicious activity prior to the blaze breaking out.
