A preliminary 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck near Gilroy Friday afternoon, according to the USGS.
The quake struck at 4:09 p.m., the USGS said. It was centered 7.2 miles southwest of Gilroy, 5.2 miles east-northeast of Watsonville and 11.5 miles north of Prunedale.
