Lanes Open After Crash Near I-80 Overpass in Berkeley

Three westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 80 reopened near the University Avenue exit in Berkeley after a big-rig hit the center divider, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to officials, the driver was transported with major injuries to a nearby hospital but died soon after.

The closure was a major issue Friday, Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

A Sig-alert was issued around 9 a.m. in the wake of the crash, according to the CHP.

There is major damage to the front end of the big rig and the tractor separated from the trailer, the CHP said.
