3 San Francisco Airport Workers Charged in Alleged Smuggling

Federal authorities have charged three security screeners at San Francisco International Airport with cocaine smuggling.

The U.S. attorney's office in San Francisco said late Friday that the three allegedly took payoffs from cocaine smugglers to let them pass through airport security without closer inspection.

The three are employees of security contractor Covenant Aviation Security. The company did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Saturday.

Federal prosecutors said two of the three have been freed on bond. A third is in custody pending a detention hearing Monday.
