3 Mountain View High School Students Arrested for Threats on Social Media: Police

Police say three high school students in Mountain View were arrested Monday for allegedly making threats on social media.

"Last night, our officers learned about the threats that had been posted onto a social media site that referenced potential harm to students and staff at Mountain View High School. All three student were detained, interviewed and subsequently arrested," police said in a statement.

The students were arrested on suspicion of making threats and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to police spokeswoman Katie Nelson. The students, who allegedly posted the online threats over the weekend, are not being identified by police because all three are juveniles.

Police said the post vowed to harm students and staff at the school.

Parents were concerned about both the threat and the lax notification.

"What if it turned ugly? And before they got to them, they unloaded some weapons?" one parent said.

Students were concerned, too.

"I think it’s a really a serious situation," said Jessica Hansen. "I heard from students it was just a joke."

Officers increased their presence at Mountain View High School on Monday as a precaution.

"Hopefully, they will take this as a warning," parent Michelle Hansen said. "People will learn you’re going to get in trouble if you do something like this."
