A 3-year-old San Leandro boy is listed in stable condition Thursday morning after being injured during a shooting in Oakland Wednesday night, according to police.

The boy was hurt when a bullet struck the vehicle he was in, according to police. Fragments from that bullet left the boy with injuries to his head.

Police initially stated that the child had been shot before later clarifying that the boy had been injured as a result of the shooting.

The shooting occurred just before 9:45 p.m. along the 1600 block of 80th Avenue, police said.

Teddy bear in hand Thursday morning, Oakland Police Department Acting Chief Leronne Armstrong paid a visit to the boy at the hospital.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakland Police Department Felony Assault Division at 510-238-3426.

The police department and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward up to $5,000 for anyone who can provide information that results in an arrest.
