As the 415 area code has been overlaid into a new area code of 628, one man has been selling increasingly coveted numbers.
A San Francisco company called Phone Number Guy sells "vanity phone numbers" with 415 area codes. The numbers can fetch as much as $10,000.
A FAQ on the Phone Number Guy website assures that this is "100% legal," but Federal Communications Commission spokesman Mark Wigfield told SFGate, "Numbers are not for sale. There are rules about this."
