San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a California Highway Patrol officer caught him speeding on Interstate Highway 280.
McDonald was arrested at about 6:15 p.m. on Page Mill Road just west of the highway, CHP Officer Arturo Montiel said.
The officer who arrested McDonald had observed him driving at 94 mph on southbound I-280, according to Montiel.
McDonald was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City.
He was released on his own recognizance at about 9:40 p.m. that day and is due to appear in court July 22.
San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said prosecutors have until McDonald's first court appearance to file charges since he is not in custody.
