49ers May Pay San Francisco to Leave Early

The San Francisco 49ers are so eager to leave town, they're willing to pay the city for an early exit.

Under a deal brokered by Mayor Ed Lee and Supervisor Mark Farrell, the 49ers would pay the city at least $1 million and as much as $4.295 million to depart Candlestick Park before the 2014 season, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

The team's lease on Candlestick Park runs until 2015, according to the newspaper. The 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara, under construction, is scheduled to be open in time to host games in 2014.

The proposed amendment to the team's lease, which has yet to be approved, includes promises by the 49ers that workers employed now at Candlestick Park would be offered jobs in Santa Clara, the newspaper reported. The city also promised to aid Santa Clara and 49ers officials to bid for the Super Bowl to be hosted at the new stadium.

In statements, both Lee and Farrell expressed desire to stay close to the 49ers, even if the home games are farther away.
