During his press conference on Monday, Jim Tomsula opened the door to a quarterback controversy.
And it looks like the 49ers are set to make a change.
A source confirmed to CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco that Colin Kaepernick has been told he will be the back-up quarterback Sunday and Blaine Gabbert will start against the Falcons.
The news that Kaepernick would not be starting was first reported by the Bay Area Sports Guy.
The 49ers also on Monday traded longtime tight end Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos.
