54 Mint Crowned One of the Nation’s Best New Restaurants

GQ names 54 Mint one of the country's best new restaurants

David Chang may disagree with GQ but San Francisco is home to one of 10 best new restaurants in America.

The men's magazine dubs 54 Mint one of the nation's up and comers for its ability to "make any dish seem uncomplicated and natural, no matter how many ingredients it contains."

The Italian wine bar prides itself on serving dishes such as salumeria and Sicilian ratatouille from sustainable local organic ingredients that would make Alice Waters proud.

"Three not-so-young Italian guys got together and opened a not-so-great-looking wine bar in a downtown plaza," GQ's Alan Richman wrote in his review. "The decor: wooden tables, pots, vases, food products. Not so promising, right? Don't underestimate old Italians."

54 Mint opened in May of this year where a former taqueria used to be, across from the popular Blue Bottle Cafe and around the corner from the Emporium shopping center. The restaurant was opened by Alberto Avalle, a founder of New York's Il Buco, and his two partners.
