$6 Million Grant to Reduce Vehicle Emissions Accepting Applications Now

A total of $6 million will be awarded to public agencies to support projects that improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing vehicle trips and miles traveled, according to officials with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

The program will be funded through the district's Transportation Fund for Clean Air Regional Fund, which provides grants to reduce emissions from on-road vehicles in the Bay Area. Qualified projects include transportation services and bicycle facilities that will reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips.

All grant applicants will be required to attend at least one online pre-application workshop that covers the requirements, eligibility, the application process and evaluation criteria. The next workshop is scheduled for Aug. 22 and applications are due by Sept. 10.

The recipients of the grant money will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis based on the projects' cost-effectiveness in reducing emissions.
