6 Injured After Woman Crashes Into Front of Trader Joe's Store in Los Altos

Six people were injured but not seriously hurt Friday when a 75-year-old woman crashed her car into a Trader Joe's grocery store in Los Altos, a police spokesman said.

Police were called at about 11:45 a.m. to the store at 2310 Homestead Road in Los Altos, east of the Foothill Expressway, where a woman in the parking lot had driven into the front doors of the business, Sgt. Brian Jeffrey said.

The woman's Mercedes-Benz sedan struck a customer, who suffered minor injuries, outside the store and four other people inside the business also suffered minor injuries, Jeffrey said.

The driver was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, he said.

The five others were also transported to a hospital as a precaution, he said.

Police received conflicting statements about what caused the crash and are not sure as yet if it was due to a mechanical defect or operator error, he said.

The driver was not cited at the scene but authorities are reviewing the circumstances of the crash, he said.
