600 Drivers, Not One Drunk

Sobriety checkpoint yields no dui drivers

No drivers were arrested for driving under the influence during a
checkpoint in Union City on Friday night even though more than 600 passed
through the checkpoint, the Police Department announced Saturday.

The checkpoint was conducted on state Highway 238 at Mission
Boulevard, south of Lafayette Avenue, according to police.

Of the 632 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint, seven
drivers were cited for being unlicensed and four vehicles were towed and
stored, police said.

A checkpoint in the same area last year netted seven drunken
driving arrests, police said.
