63-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed by Car in San Jose

The man was walking across Jackson Avenue in East San Jose when a gray, 1991 Toyota Camry hit him.

A 63-year-old man was fatally struck by a car Sunday night while crossing a street in East San Jose, police said.

Police said the crash was reported just before 10 p.m. Sunday at Jackson Avenue south of Alum Rock Avenue.

Emergency responders located the pedestrian at the scene and took him to Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.

The victim's name is being withheld until family members are notified of his death.

Police learned that the man had been crossing Jackson Avenue when a gray, 1991 Toyota Camry struck him.

The car's driver, a 49-year-old man, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. Police said he was not believed to be driving drunk.

Both directions of traffic on Jackson Avenue between Alum Rock Avenue and San Antonio Street remained closed around midnight as investigators continued to examine the scene of the crash, police said.
