86-Year-Old Clayton Woman Dies in Pedestrian Collision

An 86-year-old Clayton woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision with a vehicle in Concord, police said.

Officers were sent at 3:19 p.m. to the collision just north of the Ayers Road and Valley Crest Drive intersection.

Police said a vehicle traveling south on Ayers Road struck and killed the woman who was crossing the southbound lane. Police said she was outside of a crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and cooperated with police. According to police, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the collision.

Ayers Road between Clayton Road and Valley Crest Drive was closed for about three hours while officers investigated.

According to police, the victim's name won't be released until her family is told. The investigation is ongoing.
