90-Year-Old Man Killed By Truck, 57th Traffic Casualty in San Jose

A 90-year-old man died Tuesday evening in San Jose’s 54th fatal traffic accident of 2015, police said.

Officer Albert Morales said the man, identified later by the coroner as Ernest Glave, died at the hospital later Tuesday evening after he was struck by a utility truck on South Bascom Avenue about 5:45 p.m.

The death brings the number of people killed in car accidents to 57, San Jose police said.

The driver of the truck stopped and cooperated with investigators at the scene, Morales said, adding that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the pedestrian’s death.

Glave's  death follows on the heels of the city’s 53rd fatal traffic accident in San Jose this year on Monday.

In that case, Carlos Manrique Torres, 36, of San Jose was killed after his yellow Volkswagen Beetle was struck by a suspected drunk driver. San Jose police arrested Carlos Villalobos, 19, of San Jose for felony drunk driving, hit-and-run and two outstanding warrants.
